It is December the 8th, 1941 . . .
The Nippon Trade Council, a group representing businesses
profiting from trading with the Empire of Japan, release
"The Great Pearl Harbor Swindle." This film, produced by a
known Communist, says the Japanese did not attack Pearl
Harbor. It claims that natural causes, not Japan, wreaked
the American battleships at Pearl Harbor on December 7th,
1941. The film interviews several scientists, all of whom
have financial ties to Japan.
Using falsified data, the scientists concoct a theory about
sunspots destroying the American battleships. After all, one
of the scientists tells us, the laws of physics say that energy
only flows from hot to cool. An airplane, cooled by the air
rushing around it, can't harm a battleship with a hot coal or
oil fire under it's boilers. Only the sun is hotter than a coal
fire. Therefore, only the sun could transfer enough energy
to a battleship to sink it.
Do you, a loyal American, want the Nippon Trade Council
to correct the false statements in their movie? Is stronger
action than that required? Should all copies of the film be
confiscated and destroyed? Should those connected to
this film be jailed or even executed?

(I'm only partly making up this scenario. American businesses
with ties to Japan actually made a newsreel after 'The Day that
Shall Live in Infamy.' All copies of the film were destroyed
in the war fever that followed the official US entry into WWII.)
