Dear All:

One of the Climate Himalaya Partners (www.climatehimalaya.net) , the
Chinadialogue- www.thirdpole.net launched ‘*The Waters of the Third Pole:
Sources of threat, sources of survival’* in partnership with its research
partners: University College London, King’s College London and the
Australian National University.

The report highlights the importance of water as both a vital resource and a
potential cause of crisis in Asia. More than one in five people on earth
depend on water from the ten major river systems originating at the planet’s
Third Pole, but the region is susceptible to high levels of climate warming,
earthquake activity, extreme weather events, glacial melting and sea-level
rise.

The Chinadialogue hopes to open up a dialogue on an issue that could put the
lives and livelihoods of millions of people at risk in the near future.

A copy of the report is available
here<http://www.chinadialogue.net/UserFiles/File/third_pole_full_report.pdf>.
More coverage will follow on the chinadialogue.net in the coming days.

*About Thirdpole*

The Third Pole Project is a multi-year, bilingual, regional editorial
project on the Himalayan watershed. We aim to raise public awareness of the
impacts of climate change in a strategic and vulnerable region and to
promote cooperation across geographical, cultural and political fault lines.
www.thethirdpole.net is a unique platform in Chinese and English that offers
a common space for information and open discussion. It publishes high
quality, accurate articles across a major language barrier and serves as a
meeting ground for scientists, journalists, activists and policy makers to
explore the scientific, social, economic and security aspects of the
environmental changes that are under way. It seeks to promote mitigation,
adaptation, conflict prevention and regional cooperation through raising
awareness and promoting discussion. All material (with author’s permission)
is published in Chinese and English under a Creative Commons license and is
