New Delhi: Even as the general elections knock on the door and GDP projections are being pared by various quarters, the government, in yet another firefighting act, is working to ensure that all big-ticket schemes, announced to prop up the economy, are fully carried out.
The Centre, on Saturday, urged all states to expedite the implementation of various economic stimulus measures and accelerate the expenditure to boost the slowing economy. "At this time, when we are going through a global meltdown, it is important that the speed of expenditure is considerably increased," Cabinet secretary KM Chandrasekhar said in a meeting with state chief secretaries. He also said chief secretaries should ensure there is sufficient progress in these schemes in their respective states. To make sure that stimulus measures are fully implemented this fiscal, an effective review machinery will also be set up at the state and central level, Chandrasekhar said. While the state-level review will be done by a panel headed by the state chief secretary, the committee at the Centre will be led by the Cabinet secretary. To ensure that the stimulus measures continue into 2009-10 as well, Singh in a letter to chief ministers on January 13 had asked them to suggest new schemes and projects that can be taken up for implementation in the remaining part of the year and the next year. The UPA government is scheduled to table the Vote on Account for 2009-10 in the Lok Sabha on February 16, when it will allocate fresh funds to various schemes and could also announce new schemes. As a further incentive to states, the Centre on Friday allocated fresh funds to its flagship programmes, including an additional Rs 1,000 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna through Nabard. It also sanctioned a supplementary fund of over Rs 4,000 crore for the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. http://www.financialexpress.com/news/speed-up-spending-centre-tells-states/417625/ ekamber --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups ""GLOBAL SPECULATORS"" group.
