** ** *No cost-cutting measures that might affect employees. * *Our Bureau * Hyderabad, June 15 Pharma major, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd will hire 1,300 employees in various categories this year. A large chunk of this would be through campus recruitments, in which over one-third would be women. “In fact, we have made the largest campus recruitment this year — 350 students have been picked up from premier institutions,” Mr Prabir Kumar Jha, Senior Vice-President and Global Head of Human Resources, Dr Reddy’s told newspersons at its Leadership Academy here on Monday. No recessionary impact There was no impact of recession on hiring plans, Mr Jha said. Last year, the Hyderabad-based company recruited 1,500. The total headcount now stands at 11,000. The rate of attrition had also come down to 12 per cent from 18 per cent during last year. “Good talent will always be in demand. But overall traffic from a company to another had come down due to recession,” he said. The HR department was also not taking any unusual cost-cutting measures that might affect the employees. “We have been cautious right from the beginning. Hence, there is no need for any sudden austerity. On the other hand, we have introduced many employee-friendly and productivity-enhancing measures,” Mr Jha said. The general administrative control on the employees was eased by over 80 per cent, facilitating speedy clearance of leaves/reimbursements by imposing a good amount of trust in them. Dr Reddy’s has taken up a range of leadership promotion/learning activities for the employees through a leadership academy set up in a two acre plot in its sprawling Bachupally campus near here. “The academy, constructed with Rs 20 crore, has world class infrastructure to make learning an engaging activity for our staff at all levels. The idea is to prepare our employees to achieve the target of making Dr Reddy’s a $3 billion company by FY2013,” Mr Jha said. To derive benefits through an interdisciplinary approach, the academy has tied up with five different industries and formed a consortium for learning. >From its inauguration in January this year till last month, over 13,000 employees had attended training in academy. “We are the only pharmaceutical company in the country which had set up an academy of this scale for learning. We are sure, this will give us long-term advantages,” Mr Jha said.
