"There is lots of noise that comes with information and one needs to train
himself to separate noise from information" -- Naseem Taleb (in substance)

Over the past few weeks, I have realised that two areas where discerning
information from noise can be of great help are decision making &
interpretation of financial information.

I will use a famous experiment done by Tversky & Kahneman & quote Charlie
Munger, Buffett, & Ralph Wanger to drive home the point.

*Money Back Insurance Plan* Ashish Shah | [email protected]
Money-back plans can be defined as endowment plans that periodically return
a certain percentage of the sum assured instead of waiting till the end of
term. While in a pure term policy, the insurance company is liable to pay
the sum assured only to the beneficiaries upon the death of the
policyholder, the money back is insurance cum investment plan. The rider,
however, is that the premium is significantly high in the latter compared to
the former for the same sum assured.

Unlike ordinary endowment insurance plans where the survival benefits are
payable only at the end of the endowment period, money back policies provide
for periodic payments of partial survival benefits during the term of the
policy, of course so long as the policy holder is alive. An important
feature of this type of policies is that in the event of death at any time
within the policy term, the death claim comprises full sum assured without
deducting any of the survival benefit amounts, which may have already been
paid as money-back components.

A few months back, we argued why Oracle Financial Services Software Limited
(OFSS) was a great buy @ Rs. 735/ share, reasons aplenty. The plight of OFSS
remained in the dismal performance of the banking & the financial services
sector. The poor expectations from the sector translated to poor
expectations from all allied businesses owing to a belief that this will
result in decline in new business. Here we list a few points as to why we
believe OFSS still looks attractive.
