The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to invite fresh global bids for
the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project, after it scrapped the contract with Maytas
Infra-led consortium.

According to sources, the bids will be invited on 16 July 2009 while the
final bidder is likely to be announced on 15 November 2009.

The government has decided to increase the caution money for the Rs 12,132
crore project from 0.5 per cent of the contract to one per cent, which works
out to Rs 120 crore.

The Government is likely to take this up the metro venture basing on
viability gap funding (VGF) mode. This is in contrast to earlier approach of
awarding the contract to Maytas Infra, which had based the project on
commercial exploitation of real estate.
