*Edserv Softsystems Ltd* is acquiring *SmartLearn Telcomp Pvt. Ltd*. for an undisclosed sum. If the deal goes through, it will be Edserv Softsystems’ second acquisition in a month’s time. Earlier in Feb’10, Edserv acquired *Bridle Information and Technology Solutions Pvt. Ltd*. for a little less than $1 Mn.
With this deal, Edserv has forayed into a new domain, targeting Rs 1000 Cr IIT –JEE and AIEEE training market. This acquisition also provides Edserv access to more than 10,000 students who are already undergoing IIT-JEE training in Smart Learn. SmartLearn – founded by *Swaminathan K *and* Sudha Mani G* (both from IIM – B) – offers e-learning courses for IIT-JEE and AIEEE aspirants. It offers e- learning solutions under the brand name – *SmartLearn WebTV*. It has received investments from Suresh Kalpathi (CEO – Kalpathi Investsments Pvt. Ltd.), K.B. Chandrashekhar ( Co-founder and Chairman – e4e Inc.) and N Kumar (Vice- Chairman – the Sanmar Group). EdServ Softsystems Ltd – promoted by S Giridharan - is an IT solutions company that provides integrated learning & placement solutions. It offers e-learning solutions through its products – EdCenters, EdCampuses and EdCadeys. It has provided staffing solutions to TVS Group, Infosys, HCL Technologies, Hexaware Technologies and Ashok Leyland. In September 2009, Edserv acquired 100 % stake inonline tuition portal * 2tion.com*. Last month, the company got shareholder's approval to raise up $500mn from the overseas market.
