*Godrej Consumer Products Ltd* is acquiring *Megasari Makmur Group* and its distribution company - *Intrasari Raya* for an undisclosed sum.
In January, DealCurry had reported that the deal is estimated to be worth Rs 1,200-1,400 cr. Godrej said the acquisition will help to strengthen its presence in Asia, Africa and Latin America through 3 core categories--home care, personal wash and hair care. Besides, it will also provide a platform for launching home care and personal care products from the Godrej stable in Indonesia. Transaction Note The diversified portfolio of Megasari includes HIT insecticide, Stella air freshener, instant foods, car care products, baby wipes and a rat and insect catcher. It has a turnover of approximately Rs.600 crore. GCPL had planned to fund the Indonesian acquisition through a combination of internal accruals and debt. The GPCL board had given approval for raising Rs. 3,000 cr last year. The past few years have seen Godrej Consumer make a number of acquisitions as it attempts to widen its reach globally. It acquired Keyline Brands, a UK-based personal care products company, in October 2005 and took over South Africa’s Rapidol in September 2006. It bought South African hair accessory maker Kinky in April 2008. At the beginning of the current fiscal, it acquired the remaining 50% stake in its joint venture with Swedish company SCA Hygiene Products and recently bought a 49% stake in Godrej Sara Lee from units part of the Godrej group.
