What's new?
-------------
New Features:
* No config is stored in config.inc.php at all any more. It can be deleted.
* All database and LDAP configuration parameters are entirely per-dataset,
so you can run totally independently-configured IRM instances.
* The current licence key assigned to a machine for each piece of software
is displayed in the software list for that machine.
* A new field has been added to the software information screen, to record
the location (on a fileserver, for instance) where the software is
stored.
* A link to the tracking item is now inserted at the bottom of each e-mail
which the tracking system sends out.
* If a user fails authentication when going to a particular page, and is
directed to login again, they will be returned to the page they
originally visited after they have successfully logged in.
* You can now view a particular computer directly from the computers-index
page (instead of having to go through a search first) by means of a
select box. Think of the time and RSI saved!
* It is now possible to give a tracking item a list of other e-mail addresses
which should receive copies of tracking e-mails. We still don't
have a full "subscription" system going, but this should be a start
down that line.
* All displayed followups are now strictly sorted by their date, rather than
semi-randomly.
* When entering a new fast-track entry, the default values for User and
E-mail are the currently logged-in user's details, for convenience.
* When searching for tracking items, you can now choose to search in the
tracking item itself and/or all provided followups.
* The work request and priority of a tracking item are now modifiable.
* Tracking items in a search result can now be sortable by most of the
columns in the listing.
* The last followup info is shown in the listing of tracking items, for ease
of reference.
* Followups to tracking items can be marked "public" or "private", so if you
don't want to provide sensitive details to the whole world, you can
mark your followup "private" so only techs and admins can view it.
Bugs fixed:
* if you request a specific IRM ID for a computer, but it isn't numeric, an
error is displayed. (SF#925606).
* After logout, the user is now actually redirected to the login page.
* All queries in the software have been audited and, in most cases,
rewritten, to ensure that we will not suffer from SQL injection
attacks. This is a major security improvement.
* If a user enters login.php into their browser, they get redirected to the
login form (index.php).
* Ports for networking devices are now actually added.
* Several "invalid variable" type errors fixed, but all such errors should
be avoided now, since we're masking off E_NOTICE level errors.
* Old and complete tracking items are no longer shown in the default
tracking list.
* The link to the IRM site has been updated to point to the right place.
* Better data validation in some forms.
Behind the scenes (primarily of interest to developers):
* All queries in install.php and upgrade.php are readably-formatted;
* irm.inc has had all functions moved to functions.php; irm.inc is now
*only* a stub for setting the environment and session;
* The old CVS and manual changelog detritus has been stripped out, so
there's less cruft at the top of all the source files;
* The policy of no closing ?> on files (because stray whitespace does really
unpleasant things to PHP sometimes) has been fully implemented;
* $PREFIX, $USERPREFIX, and $UPREFIX are now totally removed;
* A new IRMDB class has been created to act as a buffer between the MDB code
and IRM, to store a number of extra methods (such as InsertQuery()
and UpdateQuery()) which MDB itself does not provide.
* Simulated sequences have replaced all dodgy attempts to obtain the new
object ID, as well as any SELECT LAST_INSERT_ID() queries. This
means we're fairly ready to go on a port to any other database
engine that people want to support.
* $AUTHSOURCE is gone, in favour of working out how to authenticate for the
current dataset.
* All session variables are prefixed with _sess_ so that they don't conflict
with any globals that might happen to be set.
* Use PATH_TRANSLATED for AbsLoc() calculations if SCRIPT_FILENAME wasn't
supplied by the Web server.
Downloading and Installing
----------------------------
1) Retrieve the irm-1.5.1.tar.gz file from
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=14522.
2) Expand the downloaded file to a temporary location.
3) For new installations, read docs/INSTALL. For upgrades, read
docs/UPGRADE.
4) Operate as required, and enjoy the best that Open Source can offer!
