Only to advice that the development of IRM, that was the original
project from which IRMA (and so then glpi) fork off, have a new leader
and a new version.

I don't know if some sort of development can be done together, clearly
irm seems that will have some very needed feature (db independence,
postgres support) but also some very missed one (l10n).

Subject: [irm-devel] Release candidate available: 1.5.0rc1

[Apologies to anyone who might get this multiple times]

The first release candidate of what will become version 1.5.0 of IRM is now
available.

Release candidates of IRM are intended to be used for pre-release testing --
they may (but hopefully won't) contain nasssty bugs. Despite that, we ask
that as many people as possible test this release candidate in as many
different environments as possible, to discover any deep bugs that may have
eluded earlier testing.

The recommended method is to clone your existing IRM installation and
upgrade a non-production clone for testing purposes.

Any problems you find, please report them to either [EMAIL PROTECTED]
or [EMAIL PROTECTED] (whichever one you're subscribed to), and we'll
get a fix sorted out as soon as possible. Please let us know which URL
you're seeing the problem in, what it is that goes wrong, and any and all
error messages which appear.

RELEASE NOTES FOR IRM 1.5.0 release candidate 1
              -------------------------------------------------

What's new?
-------------

Major user-visible features are far and few between in this release. Most
of the 1.5 series releases are planned as being "housekeeping" releases --
swatting bugs, getting major new infrastructure in place under the hood,
that sort of thing. However, there'll still be some useful things that go
in, because a release that is no better than it's predecessor isn't so
useful.

In 1.5.0rc1, we have:

* MD5 password support (no longer will you have to guard your database
        jealously);
* A new method of configuring databases which is more flexible and (in the
opinion of your humble release manager) a lot easier to configure
        and read; as well as
* A multitude of bugfixes (especially for older bugs).

Behind the scenes (primarily of interest to developers):

* We've started working on true multi-database support, with plans afoot to
have a functional PostgreSQL interface for 1.5.1. For now, the
database abstraction layer has been changed to MDB, which will aid
        greatly in database independence.
* Work has commenced on making IRM E_ALL friendly. I like writing and
running code with E_ALL, as it makes for tidier (and tighter) code.

Downloading and Installing
----------------------------

1) Retrieve the irm-1.5.0rc1.tar.gz file from
        http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=14522.

2) Expand the downloaded file to a temporary location.

3) For new installations, read docs/INSTALL. For upgrades, read
        docs/UPGRADE.

4) Operate as required, and enjoy the best that Open Source can offer!

Known Issues
--------------

* The conversion to MDB and compliance with more stringent error checking has
been quite invasive, and we're not sure that all of the corner cases
have been worked out. Hence, if you get any query errors or PHP
errors, warnings, or notices, please post them immediately to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and we'll get back to you with a fix.
