Joa,I guess that most people read that article that I put in Coupe
Capers a while back when I had that fire in my cockpit,But in case you
missed it,I will state what happened breifly. While flying along one dark
moonless night,I smelled smoke and soon after,I saw flames coming from
the pass.side floorboards near the firewall. My fire ext. did not work
because the little hair spray type button fell off and went in between
the seat.I was able to keep the flames at bay by stepping on it about
every 2 mins. or so.I was lucky enough to declare an emerg.and make it
to an airport and landed safely. When the fire dept. opened the
cowling,we found that my 300 hr. exh.sys. had broken and raw flames were
shooting back onto the firewall and super heating the floor
boards, causing the wood to ignite.Since then,I use this stuff called
Fiberfax as an insulating material. You can get it from A/S or I can send
you some,I have a lot left over. Don't take a chance on this one because
I was really scared after I landed and the fireman could not even
believe that I had made it to the ground because of the location of the
header tank.( I never told them that I had cut the eng. off once I
figured I had a runway made)Jim in Ct.
