While I have no experience using automotive (silicone based) brake fluid
in a 'coupe (and would never do it), I have used it in many of my
automobiles, successfully and unsuccessfully. Besides the temperature
specs, silicone fluid has one great strength in that it is not
"hydroscopic" (I think the spelling is right), that is it will not
attract and hold water. I think it will also lubricate seals better
than standard fluid too.

On the negative side, it is quite difficult to bleed out air since the
bubbles don't quickly rise to the surface in the relatively thick fluid.
If you don't purge the system completely to remove all non-silicone
fluid, you will probably create places that contain moisture and will
then be pockets of corrosion.

The obvious best feature of silicone is that it can withstand much
higher operating temperatures than regular fluid. That's why it is
often used in race cars. If you want to do follow proper procedures, it
will work fine in most automotive applications. I stopped using it in
my cars when they came with anti-lock brakes... Way too hard to purge
and bleed properly.

I don't think that there are any good reasons to use it in a 'coupe. I
would stick with a mineral based fluid like Mil-5606 or whatever is
recommended.

Has anyone had experience with using DOT 5 silicon fluid in the brake
system ?
Has anyone had experience with using DOT 5 silicon fluid in the main
landing gear shocks???
I would like to discuss it off line.
