The FAA has confirmed that the Sport Pilot NPRM has been placed on display at the office of the Federal Register. The official document will reportedly be published in the Federal Register next Tuesday, February 5, with a closing of the 90-day comment period on May 6, 2002. The document, officially entitled "Certification of Aircraft and Airmen for the Operation of Light Sport Aircraft," will soon be available online on this FAA web site: www.faa.gov/avr/arm/nprm.htm. The proposal would define light-sport aircraft as simple, low- performance, low-energy aircraft that would be limited to: ** 1,232 lbs. maximum weight, ** two occupants, ** a single engine (non-turbine), ** stall speed of 39 knots, ** maximum airspeed of 115 knots, and ** fixed landing gear.
