Hi Vern,
I don't want to shoot down your idea before you submit it to the Feds,
but
according to my friend Joe Norris at EAA, the Feds will only accept the
gross weight at
which the manufacturer certified the airplane. He said they positively
would not allow
certified airplanes to recertify at a lower gross weight just to get into
the Sport
category. He also said the Feds really did not want to deal much with
older factory
certified airplanes in the Sport category, but were encouraging the new
designs built
by factories or by homebuilders to comply. Try it, though. What have we
to lose by
trying?
Syd
