I never knew just how much I would be spending when I got my first Coupe. Here I wanted a little puddle jumper that was fun, economical and reliable. So I get a coupe that's fun, economical and reliable. So fun in fact, my wife wants to take it more and more. Nice guy that I am (grin), I buy her a coupe for Christmas. So my costs just doubled! but wait there's more. Now my lovely wife decides that she REALLY likes flying especially coupes, so she starts shopping - and when she shops, look out! I would have been fine with -oh maybe a coupe rebuild project, or even another coupe. They "are" economical, right? "No," my bride says, "we need to be closer to our planes. It just doesn't do to have to drive an hour to the hangars. And you know, there are no hangars available nearby." She continues, "and it so happens that I've just found this lovely lot on an airstrip nearby. It's only five times the cost of the coupe." ---- Note we are up to seven times costs here. "Of course, we'll need a hangar for the coupes, and that nice Mr. Nagle down the strip has FOUR coupes, we should build a big enough hangar so someday we have four coupes." Lessee - a 60 x 60 hangar, maybe around four times the cost of the coupe. Eleven times the cost of coupe here!! "Ok, Sweetheart," I say,"you've sold me, we can buy a lot and put a hangar on it - anything for you, dear! And it IS nearby to our house" "Uhm" she says.... uh-oh, I know this uhm!! "Uhm... the rules say you have to build a house with the hangar, we get to have a new house TOO" she says giddily. Ok - lessee here. New house with five kids each wanting their own room so we need a BIG house...local building costs $100/sq foot... ...that should be around FIFTEEN times the cost of the coupe!!! Grand total of TWENTY SIX times the cost of the Coupe!! See, Ercoupes ARE expensive!! If i had bought a Cessna - I'd have saved a lot of money! Rick and his lovely Bride Jenn!
