WANTED: I am looking for a Firestone or Cleveland 5.00 X 5 Wheel that
will fit the double nose fork for the Coupe. Anyone have a spare??
Please contact me off net with price.
The only area of the coupe that I can not inspect during it's
restoration is the area behind the rear spar. I decided to remove the
after wing fairings to see what I could see. I finished removing the
lower rear wing fairings and bottom skin (rear of wing to rear spar
only) on stub wings today and DID find corrosion that I could not see by
looking into hole in the end of the stub wing located behind the rear
spar with a bright light inserted into the hole behind frame 'E'.
Pictures will be available later today. If you would like to see them,
contact me off net and I'll send them to you. Basically besides light
skin corrosion I found one of the aft former ribs (the short ribs behind
the rear spar) corroded in half! Fortunately, there was no corrosion on
the rear spar itself.
This area of the coupe CAN NOT be inspected. It took me two hours per
side to remove all the rivets on that side. Did one side Saturday,
second on Sunday. I used a rivet removal tool that cost $52.00 at
Cleveland Tools. Makes drilling out dome head rivets kids play. The
area was totally filthy and had a huge accumulation of dirt, grease,
dried oil, miscellaneous nuts bolts and screws. The side with the oil
was not corroded but the side with only dirt was the bad side.
If anyone has a spare center section, I need the most inboard after
former rib for the right side. This rib supports the inboard side of the
right walkway. If I can't find one, I'll have to make one from sheet
aluminum.
