The route is doable. There are a few hills (12,000+) you will want to go
around, and your airspeed will somewhat slower (80 to 90 mph) at the
altitude you will need to fly. You will need to consider that during your

flight planning. Include some water in your flying kit. It's a long walk

between water holes out here.

Canyon lands are mostly in Utah along the Colorado boarder. The whole
area
is worth seeing from the air. If you have time, you can drop down to the
Grand Canyon, but I wouldn't recommend flying through it in a Coupe. If
you go that far south, you shouldn't have any problem crossing the divide
in New Mexico.

If you want to cross the divide in Colorado, I would use North Pass. You
can find it on a map just south of US50, west of Gunnison and east of
Sequache. The pass is around 10,500. I cross it one or two times a
year. You will need to be careful of the weather. Late March brings some

good snow and windstorms to the high country and either one will leave you

grounded somewhere. If you use North Pass plan to do it early in the
morning as possible---do not wait until afternoon. I have done it late in

the day and in the summer, but it was one of those "Bold and not going to
get old" kind of things.

Going this way will take you over the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and
near the Great Sand Dunes. Both are interesting from the air. Are you
planning on stopping and renting a car to look around or just flying
through?

I may be able to guide you over the pass depending on when you plan on
trying it.
