Pete & All, I reluctantly have to give Gates his due. He is very good at marketing and making money. His products leave a lot to be desired. (Well, MS Sim is pretty cool.) I never was much of a fan of Word, and now that I have had to give it a real workout on the current project I'm working on, I downright hate it. It seems to me that every version gets worse and more annoying to deal with. I was having major problems with it in converting Word documents to pdf files. Adobe Acrobat 5.0 works like a dream, but Word throws a wrench into the process. I found an Acrobat discussion group and I have been able to get a lot of technical help from them. One of the guys said that he is a tech writer who cut his teeth using Word and he had all sorts of problems. Then he went on to list specific problems. They were exactly the same problems I was having. So it isn't me. Word does really suck. If you don't think so, try working on a document or documents hundreds of pages long that include graphics. Crashed the PCs here at school and it isn't due to lack of horsepower. Geez. Microsloth Micro$oft Fooey!
