Thanks, James. I'm doing about 75% of my maintenence already under the supervision of my AP. I let him handle the engine and control surfaces, and always check with him before proceeding. It's a catch 22. An old airplane is cheaper and it's ready to fly. Then, you soon spend as much as you paid for it just having it inspected - with you doing half the work and no repairs or improvements. For a well maintained aircraft in good condition it seems some components should definately be inspected anually or 100 hours, and for others are just pure overkill, especially if the owner is dilligent. Being a pilot is a big responsibility, and reqiures a lot of study and hard work. I would certainly be willing to make the same effort to become qualified to inspect some components of my aircraft that now have to be done by an AP.
