I have ordered a fiberglass lower cowl and will have to cut a slot in it and then a clearance hole for the nose gear to come down through. Then a plate will have to be put over the slot to seal it. My question... can I legally fabricate a simple fairing that fillets the area around the gear and effectively seals it for lower drag? The same fairing would also cover the slot behind the gear and would be screwed to the lower bowl the same way as the normal aluminum plate. What's required to do this legally? Since a 337 is required anyway for the lower cowl would the fairing (which is essentially part of the cowl) just be included in the description? Thanks folks.
