To convert to a 85 hp you will need not too much.
1 the kit with new jets for the carburetor
2. a new engine placard from Continental plus paperwork

I think the engine placard can be modified with a metal stamp. Mine was
done that way and has been eyeballed by a lot of IA mechanics. (Ditto the
aircraft dataplate and the conversion from 415-C to 415-D.)

3. rework the prop to a smaller one down to 71 inch from 73
4. mark your tach with the new limits
5. Mark your POH for the new engine

(I hope I did not forget something)

Benefits: Engine will run faster, use more Gas and the cruise performance
is slightly better - 4-5 more MPH.
I don't think one would climb better, since the 85 horses are developed at
over 2500 RPM which I never saw on climb out in my coupe.

The prop change lets the engine develop more rpm, hence more power on
climb. You do, I think, get more of the benefit, minimal as it is, in
climb.

Be aware, Fred Weick was also the leading small plane prop designer. His
choice of a prop for the C-75 is very good, and the prop for the C-85 is
not nearly so well chosen. I've heard repeatedly that the horsepower
upgrade and prop change don't get you much.
