In addition to the ANR solution, you might consider obtaining better passive noise reduction, which I found to be less expensive, no batteries, and nothing to malfunction. I modified my rather inexepensive Sigtronics headsets with the full passive NR kits sold by Oregon Aero. You will be dismayed to look inside those big plastic ear cup chambers and see how little noise attenuating material the manufacturer provides. After installing the $90 kits, I'm very pleased with the resulting noise level, even with the cockpit open. It's an alternative worth evaluating.
