In addition to the ANR solution, you might consider
obtaining better passive noise reduction, which I
found to be less expensive, no batteries, and nothing
to malfunction. I modified my rather inexepensive
Sigtronics headsets with the full passive NR kits sold
by Oregon Aero. You will be dismayed to look inside
those big plastic ear cup chambers and see how little
noise attenuating material the manufacturer provides.
After installing the $90 kits, I'm very pleased with
the resulting noise level, even with the cockpit open.
It's an alternative worth evaluating.
