I'd thank anyone for putting an un-repairable Coupe on static display.
Far better a fate to be on a pole, roof or yard than to be in the
junk-heap behind the barn.

Fred said, when he was designing and building Coupes, they never expected
Coupes to be flying more than about 10 years out. He was tickled and
surprised that they were flying as dynamically as they were into the early
'90s when he died.

Maybe there'll be a Coupe still flying in 2039 on the 100-year
anniversary. Coupes have already made it as an active flying design
through 64% of the history of powered aviation. Nothing is forever.

Neil; N99318 had been left sit on the ramp at Pompano Beach for 8
years. It was corroded so bad that the ailerons were no longer hooked up.
The center section was so bad you could stick your finger under the bottom
spar cap. Both wings bottom spar caps were gone, and holes were eaten
through the airframe at various points. We had to dump the water, and
other things out of it, in order to even move it. Oh yes, the scissors was
corroded and broken completely off, both steering collars were cracked
completely through. I remember theses things just from the walk around
inspection. There were so many more items I didn't even bother to list.
It took us a week just to get things apart, and patch the holes with
pop rivets/.010 aluminum flashing so we could paint the airframe with a
brush. The engine mount and nose gear, along with a navigation light are
now flying on another Coupe. So I consider the effort to go get it worth
while.
The static display keeps the pieces still useful instead of being in
the junk pile.
