Darwin,
Coupes, on the other hand, can more easily be used for flying trips.
. I flew over the mountain range east
of Salt Lake City, then over Salt Lake City itself, all at 12, 400' and it

was a thrill to be up there with the airline traffic in it's pattern a few

thousand feet below me. Then it was special to fly over the edge of the
Great Salt Lake, then the salt flats to Wendover with visibility of 150
miles. Flying through the pass west of Wendover, Utah, during climbout
from
a fuel stop and flying up the Columbia River George east of Portland were
magical in the low-wing Coupe. Flying over Crater Lake was something I'll

never forget, as well as up and down the Pacific Coast, (a few nervous
yards
out over the ocean). Then I flew to Glacier National Park and across the
Great Plains back to Iowa. I sure recommend you find a way to make trips
like that in your Coupe.

Wow Sounds fantastic!
I have a number of trips planned that the coupe will fill
the bill better than
the challenger. I have relatives scattered all over western Canada. Most
are easily less
than a day away. First though I want to spend a fair amount of time in the
circuit
& get comfortable with the coupe & crosswind. After a few trips I want to
go out
to see my sister in New Brunswick. That should be lots of fun! This coupe
won't have
mode C for a while so I'll have to stay to the smaller airports.
Our club wants to get pictures of the local grass strips for a web page &
I think the coupe
should make a great photography platform.
The coupe is coming together nicely, the wings are painted & back
on, the lights are
all back in & working. The instruments & radio are in but not yet hooked
up. They were
cutting new lexan for the side windows today. Got a look at the prop , in
beautifull
shape, not a scratch or nick any where. It's a 7148 Mcaully . I assume that
is a standard
climb prop for 85hp.The sump & carb are back on the engine. We have 2
coalators,
One mounts on the firewall while the other goes on the carb with a
bracket.
Not sure which to use??? The carb is a stromberg with a mixture lever on
it.
Everything is rigged as a 415c.(have decided to fly at 1260 lb to start
with
then later get a split elevator, the cover over the fuse tank is already
stainless)
The tail height has not been set yet but
will be before we fly it. Still need the baffles put on the engine , Prop
mounted
, Sparkplugs in, exhaust system on & cowling installed. Windshield
interior & battery to
go in yet.
