Hi Ken,

Interesting..BUT, I expect that was an "old wives tale", that somehow got 
started in the ground school... Auto gas in the late 40's had very little 
lead, except for the super hi test..... Many gasoline stations still had 
unleaded fuel available.

The t-craft was certified on 73 octane auto fuel - no lead.....(C-65/75 
engines...). So maybe everyone was afraid of lead in those days. (problems
we 
see today using 100LL. Continental manual still advises if one is to store

the engine, it shold be run on unleaded fuel for 15 min....prior to shut 
down. Corrosion from the tetra Ethyl lead is the potential problem....

Straining theu 6 shop towels would not remove lead as the lead is in a 
soluble form, but it might collect water contamination and sediments....A 
chammie skin does a better job on water and trash......
