Gaylon,

Congratulations!!!! Buying a plane was one of the most rewarding things
I've ever done.

On a note of caution: Have you done an independent inspection for
corrosion
especially of the center section? There's probably an AD coming out in
the
moderately near future. It's based on some airplanes which have had major
center section corrosion.

If I were buying a Coupe (or any old plane) I would invest the time and
money to take the wings off and use bright lights and mirrors to inspect
the
center section before any purchase.

I've known a couple of people who bought corroded planes and had to spend
almost as much again to get it airworthy. One donated the plane to a
museum
and bought a replacement. That's a big penalty for the mistake of not
taking off the wings, taking out the seats and doing a thorough
independent
inspection. (2-4 hours of work counting putting everything back
together.)

Metal wings have suffered MORE corrosion than fabric wings from what I've
heard so be sure to do a thorough inspection through all 16 inspection
holes
in each wing. Wings are more replaceable, though. It's only $2,500-$4,000
or so for one replacement wing, covered, painted and ready to go. (There
may
be a surplus of wings on the market if the AD grounds a lot of airframes.
Pessimists think there may be a lot of those but I'm not that pessimistic.
Caution IS warranted.)

Here's a link to a pre-purchase inspection check-list I compiled based on
input from several Coupe mechanics back during the short time I edited
Coupe
Capers. Few people do all the things recommended in this check-list but
I'd
suggest you spend time with YOUR mechanic deciding what to do and what to
skip.
