Hello all,
Ron died yesterday at home.
Very peaceful, it was difficult to tell that he was gone.
I am planning a Memorial Service for sometime mid September
Ron really enjoyed reading all the postings on this and the previous list,
though he was the "strong silent' type, so you did not hear much from him
When he was in his early 20s, in the late 1940s and early '50s in England,
he designed and built a small sports car. It was all made from scratch,
except for a engine from a German motor cycle. (later he exchanged that
for another engine)
Because it was so low to the ground, the conventional turn signaling
(either putting your arm out the window, or those little electric arms
that flipped out the side) were not suitable. Ron developed a flashing
turn signal device on the rear of his car, long before they were heard of
or acceptable on commercial vehicles.
He used to tear around the Sussex countryside, and could outturn and
outmanuver his friend on a good motorcycle.
When Ron went to purchase a commmercially produced car a few years later
(he needed one with more clearance and a second seat) the dealer was
happy to take the custom made one in on trade. ( We both believe that he
set himself up in Rolls Royces and probably patented the turn signal
device)
Ron has been a hard worker a perfectionist and an inovator all his life.
In recent years Ron has been working on a radical plane design using
squirrel cage fans for the source of lift and propulsion.
Ron and I talked a lot about my carrying on his projects around our
property, and (although neither of us are strong believers in an
afterlife) I told him that his new email address would be
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
A friend has actually set up this address for us.
There is a meaning to this address.
I told Ron that he would be on the cloud next to the Philadelphia Cream
Cheese angel,(you know, the ad on TV) and could supervise me as I
continued on our long range plans
Ron and I becamd engaged five years ago this week.
We did not have many years together, but they were good years, and I am
sure that both of us were very happy that we met and married.
Ann Standing
