I've been calling around locally for a valve guide cleaner (adjustable hone- not a reamer) and can't find one. References on the net newsgroups seem to imply these are fairly common and should be around $20 or less. Any tips on where to find one? My baby is running rough for the first couple of minutes after I start her and I'm suspecting I might have a valve sticking on me. My IA and I are going to see if we can find out which one and give it a good cleaning. Lycoming Service Instruction 1425 is the reference for cleaning the guide without removing the jug in case anyone is interested. There's also some really good articles on AvWeb regarding valves and proper cooling for long life. Our little engines are "fin challenged" around the exhaust valve so all the more important to keep them as cool and clean as possible. Appreciate any tips on where to find the hone. I've already checked my usual online sources- Harbor Freight and JC Whitney plus called around locally a bunch to no avail. Keep em flyin'!
