In Thomas' book, The Ercoupe, there are several varients tried.  See page 
31 and
forward.  The ones in the book are twin-boom, pushers.
   Question:  Why has the automatic transmission succeeded while the 
two-control
airplane has not?  Why do people buy cars smart enough to shift gears, but
will
not buy planes smart enough to keep their tails behind them?
