I like Jan's idea. 9 times out of ten, it is some simple thing that makes engines not do what they are supposed to. My lawnmower exhibited similiar behavior; I unbolted the float bowl, dumped the water and crud out, cleaned it out, put it back, and she runs like a top now. An ercoupe engine is just a big Briggs and Stratton, you know... "-) I think Jan may be on to something!!!!!!!! John in BOI, who did some good flying in N3201H last week and loved every minute of it! Photo attached, if it goes thru. ============================================================== "how long has it been since your carb has been apart? Do you drain the bowl at every annual? I had a similar problem with my first coupe and after opening up the carb I found that the bottom of the bowl was full of crud and water. The fuel pickup to the main jet is slightly elevated, so that if any water or crud is in the bowl, the fuel feed should be above it and you can operate that way for a while. If the buildup continues, then eventually your carb will start sucking the crud. The problem will appear intermittently- sometimes power, sometimes sputtering, also varying with nose angle. Carb kits are only about 19 bucks for the gaskets. If you can, just get yourself a can of carb cleaner at Kragen's and just re-use the gsaket until you get home. Hopefully it's something simple like this." ====================== TO UNSUBSCRIBE go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm
