Even I, a VERY NON-mechanic, managed to replace the donuts. Put a (strong) bar through the center of the knee joint of the gear (leave the wings on) and jack it up. Get a long bolt from farm and fleet - sorry, I don't know what size. This lets the gear leg hang down and you can disassemble it and take the shock assembly into the shop to take apart, replace the donuts. THEN you have to compress the stack and put the never-to-be-sufficiently-damned retaining clips back on INSIDE the bell shaped top of the assembly. I spent two hours trying then my mechanic failed then we got an old airport hanger-arounder to do it and it took HIM 20 minutes! But it is doable. It's just a matter of dexterity, not esoteric mechanical knowledge. You do need a good tool to compress the stack while you put on the clip. Have fun. You can have it on by noon. Do I have to remove the wings to do the replacement? Can I just remove the struts if I jack up the coupe and let the wheels hang down? Alan.
