Thanks for the reply Hank!
We have just got the plane back in the air after about 25
years of being idle. It now has about 50 hours on it
after a very extensive annual.
But for about the first 5 or so hours I was getting debris ( I think off
the guage floats) & a small amount of water in
both wing tanks & the colator. That was the last of it.We followed
Leslie's idea of putting the cut down tennis balls
on the caps & no rain has gotten in while sitting but we also have not
flown it in the rain & hence my question.

Hi Darwin, I suspect that it can happen while your flying, but the
majority of it seems to run down the wire when it is outside in the rain.
Drain the header tank and let it sit for a day or two and then vacuum the
inside with a small shop vac or computer vac. Installed the cap with the
glass tube and my header tank never made h2o again. (You will have to
replace the plastic cap on top of the tube from time to time) Good luck
Hank

Hank.
When you mention about water getting in, Does this happen when your
flying
in the rain? Or do you mean when the plane is just sitting outside?

The old style gauge just had a wire without a glass tube. Worked fine
except for collecting H2O.
