It should work with 65536 files for sure. we have tested with hundreds of thousands of files in a directory. can you please get a backtrace output of the core dump?

One problem I have discovered is the server just dying when doing an "ls " in a directory with more than 65 535 files flat. I suspect this to be a general problem if the server is accessing this number of files in a total from several directories. Am I right?
