Thanks,

This helps a lot... if we move off of GlusterSP and use GlusterFS (which it looks like we might have to do since SP doesn't give you root access) then I can attempt this method. Any advice for how to re-balance the volume once this is done? Is there a command I need to call?

Thanks,

Drew

Subject: Re: [Gluster-users] Expanding a Volume with GlusterSP

Hi Drew,

Gluster Platform 3.0.X doesn't have straight forward way for volume expansion. Its required to do manual change in files,

1. /GLUSTER/volumes.xml on all servers and /GLUSTER/global-volumes.xml file in server1. 2. Creating volume exports directory under data partition mount points(/exports/DISKPARTITION/) in new servers. 3. Editing /etc/glusterfs/*VOLUME*.vol files in all servers and have same copy in new servers.

All the above steps should be done when the volume is offline.

Thanks,

Regards,
Bala

I have recently setup GlusterSP and I was able to get it up and running with
2 machines (mirrored) as a single volume.

Adding additional nodes to the cluster seemed easy enough and I have added 2 more nodes but I cannot seem to add them to my existing volume. Does anyone have any instructions for how to expand a pre-existing mirrored volume and add additional capacity to it? The user interface does not seem to let you expand a volume dynamically. I know there is a way to do this in the standard
GlusterFS but I don't remember the process and I think it involved manual
processes and some scripts for re-balancing the data. Any help would be
appreciated.

Thanks,

Drew
