Peng Yu, I have learned from experience, to safely shutdown a gluster brick is to stop the glusterd service, followed by the glusterfsd, then unmount the xfs filesystem, and then initiate the "shutdown -r now".
But my setup is rhel6, on xfs. I am not sure about other flavors of Linux.
