I know that Gmail provides a way to login to up to two Gmail accounts simultaneously. I haven't used it, so I don't know if the "Add account" button you used is the same thing or not. I would have thought that you can log out of them independently.
Regarding the username in the corner of the screen, it is there because your Gmail account is also your Google account (Google uses one account for ALL their services), so it shows up on your Google search page. It is not there because of Chrome; it would be there even if you used another web browser. I don't know if there is a way to get rid of it. One other trick you can use to login to two Gmail accounts simultaneously, in Chrome, is to open an incognito window and use that for the second account.
