But my understanding is that Google has fazed out Exchange support. Existing connections will continue to work, but they're not allowing you to connect up new devices (with the exception of Windows Phone devices for now).
Although the account will already be set up (i.e. in my backup) I believe Google will know that I'm using a new phone and so will not allow the connection to work. Am I understanding that incorrectly? > BTW, Gmail supports IMAP IDLE, this means that it will push email to your > phone even if you set it up using the default way in iOS settings. This works in Microsoft Outlook on my PC, but not on my iPhone. On my iPhone, it does not give me the option to push the mail via IMAP Idle. I sure wish it would, otherwise I wouldn't have to worry about Exchange at all. I've Googled around and folks are saying that in fact this configuration isn't currently supported on iOS.
