This comes with a small backstory:

A few years ago a friend of mine tried to set up a gmail account on my
computer
because my computer was logged into my non-gmail google account, it added
it under that account.
Once I noticed, I deactivated the gmail portion on the account and
continued to use it under my non-gmail login.
The problem is that due to my university using gmail I've grown to love it,
but when I try to set up gmail using my
non-gmail account it will only allow me to use the username my friend had
chosen those years before.

Is there any way to have this username removed or changed so that I can set
up a gmail address under my account?
I'd rather not have to deal with multiple google accounts if it can be
avoided.

Worst case if a username cant be changed, is there any way to migrate all
google data between a non-gmail account and a new gmail account?
