I want to change my Gmail address to a more suiting address.

I realized you can't directly change the address, but I found out you can
remove Gmail from your Google account (I still have a secondary non-Gmail
address linked to the account).

I assume after removing Gmail from my account Google will automatically set
my secondary email address to primary.
Of course I'd change the registered email address in all my web accounts
and forward my mail to my secondary email address first so I don't lose
anything.

Afterwards I'd make a new Gmail address in my existing Google account.

Would this be possible or does removing your Gmail account actually delete
your whole Google account?
(Because I really don't want to lose my Youtube and/or Google Drive
accounts)
