For me the fix was to go to Chrome's Content Settings (Settings > Advanced 
Settings > Privacy > Content Settings) and look at the Cookies Exception 
List (Cookies > Manage Exceptions).  The Gmail URL was listed as a site to 
Block, and when I deleted that entry, everything worked fine.  Now if I 
only knew how that got set in the first place!
