Hi Dave

The attachment uploads in the background to Google's servers so that you
may continue to compose your email. In that way, it is then sent instantly
when you click 'Send', provided of course that it has completed uploading.

Why would you only wish it to upload when you click 'Send'? This would mean
that you couldn't do anything else until it was done.
