The situation he described usually means he typed his username incorrectly. If he used his account just a few minutes ago, then indeed it still exists (unless he just deleted it). So getting an indication that it is not registered is likely "user error": failing to type the username correctly. He might have resolved his problem five minutes after he wrote that message.
