As a user's group, I'm sure we won't have anyone who can confirm if those things would be changed in the near future; but hopefully you'll find a fellow programmer in our midst who can help you with your DOM. Might I also suggest the group "Gmail-Power-Users"... it's a very low traffic group, but a lot of questions of this type do get answered there.
