Presumably you use a Filter to attach the /personal/news Label.  In that
Filter, click the checkbox to also Archive the message (so that it is not
in the Inbox).  That should do it.

Your two Labels /personal and /personal/news are two totally different
Labels.  Messages in one do not appear in the other, unless you also put
them there.
