Well... you can create a filter to mark mail with that label which has the search term "is:unread".. GMail may warn you that it won't work; but it will. You'll have to remember to remove that label when it's no longer of use to you.
Can't you perform searches in the gmail app? (I don't have an android, so I don't know). If you can; you can just use that search and have all the unread, regardless of labels, in front of you.
