You can't deselect Primary but that's just your complete Inbox. Or you can also mouseover the Inbox label in the left pane and select one of the other inbox types from the drop-down list that appears there. I'm confused though by your saying that this is a "new" Inbox. These categories were implemented many months ago. Perhaps it's even been a year now.
