Other Contacts are just contacts to whom you've replied via email without explicitly adding them as a contact. I think of it as a temporary holding ground for contacts though in fact they don't expire. I'll sometimes go through my other contacts and decide whether I want to delete them if it was just a one time communication or add them to My Contacts. Changing the contact status for other contacts requires simply selecting them and then clicking the "Add to My Contacts" button. If you want to add them to a contact group as well, click on the "groups" pull-down button which is to the right of Add to My Contacts and select a group (e.g., Personal Contacts) from there.
