Hi Folks : My gmail account was first compromised on July 10, when someone sent out a series of spam emails with a single link in the text body & no subject line. The IP address correlated to Waikanae, NZ. I followed standard resetting procedure detailed here: gmailaccountrecovery.blogspot.co.nz/#security. Overnight on Aug 5, the same happened again. This time from Tauranga, NZ. Again I followed the same resetting procedure.
This morning I checked to see if anyone had accessed my account last night, aware that I had sent no spam emails this time. I found that a Christchurch, NZ IP address had got in. So again I changed my email password - this time on another computer (though on the same network). I am nervous about logging into my gmail account on my personal laptop in case there is a keylogger installed. My computer is a Macbook Air 2013 and I am using an old Dell currently. Additionally Google Location History suggests that my account was accessed throughout late May, June, July. Access was made from Guangzhou, China, Hyderabad, India and Bangalore, India. These were all benign events, as far as I can tell, and I had no spam sent from my account during this period. I have 2-step veri set up since July 7, and since then none of this access has occurred. My understanding is that Location History is only related to my Android phone, and so I have posted a question about this in Android Central. When the discussion is approved, I'll post the link here. So my questions: 1) Is this an appropriate place to post this information and questions? Where would you suggest I repost if I'm not in the right place? 2) Is this a gmail-only problem or is it likely/possible that my Mac and Samsung S3 are compromised too? 3) Do you believe that attacks between May and July are related to the current spam incidents? 4) What would you suggest I do to ensure that people do not continue to access my account? 5) Do you need any other information?
