​I don't use a Mac.  However, I wonder what you mean by a "list of
accounts".  I'm guessing it is something on your Mac that you use to access
your Gmail.  If you deleted that, then you did not delete the Gmail account
at all.  All you did was remove it from a list that is on your Mac.

Gmail accounts "live" on Google's computers, not on your computer.

To delete a Gmail account, you must login to your account, using a web
browser, so that you are online with Google, and delete it from there.  I'm
guessing you didn't do that.

But if that is what you did, then your account is indeed gone, and it can't
be sending out those bad emails anymore.  In that case, Zack's suggestion
may be correct that the messages were not coming from your account at all.

The "From:" address on an email is like the return address written on an
envelope in postal mail.  Anyone can write anything there and it doesn't
mean the letter was actually mailed from that address.
