​That's interesting, because I never remember being able to turn off
highlighting, as long as a Gmail search is in effect.  (But maybe it was
there and I didn't realize it.)  The way to finish the Gmail search, is to
go back to the Inbox, or click​ another Label to go there.  Until then, you
are still displaying the search results.
